Quarterly Cause Connection ft. Loyola High School of Detroit

This month, First Nation Group is excited to welcome Loyola High School of Detroit as our featured guest for our Quarterly Cause Connection – First Nation Group’s Charitable Giving lunch and learn series created to build a stronger connection between employees, partners, and the nonprofit organizations we support. Loyola High School of Detroit will be joining us on GivingTuesday to discuss the Loyola Work Experience Program (LWEP), an initiative First Nation Group has participated in for several years.

“This program started in 2003 and allows our students to spend one day per week in the offices of our program partners, where they gain practical, real-world work experience that helps them find success beyond their academic studies,” said Bill McGrail, Loyola High School Director of Advancement. “Through working in a business environment, Loyola students gain professional role models, refine a strong work ethic, and better understand the expectations of future employers.”

Loyola High School of Detroit, a Catholic school in the Jesuit tradition, nurtures a culture of hope and academic success for young men challenged by an urban environment and prepares them to be men of Christian love, justice, and service who act with integrity, compassion, and courage. One of the unique elements of a Loyola education is that, as a prerequisite for graduation, all juniors and seniors participate in the Loyola Work Experience Program, to set them up for success beyond the classroom.

“The Loyola Work Experience Program has given First Nation Group the opportunity to mentor young men and prepare them to enter the workforce once they have completed school,” said Zac Holzer, Manager, Detroit Distribution Center, at First Nation Group. “Through this program, students learn the value of hard work, improve their communication skills, and better understand how to interact with co-workers and supervisors in a professional manner. These students assist the First Nation Group team in helping pick-and-pack orders that, ultimately, help give our nation’s heroes, our Veterans, a better quality of life.”

This year’s final Quarterly Cause Connection will feature speakers from Loyola High School of Detroit as well as current and past students that have participated in the LWEP with First Nation Group. Speakers for this webinar will include Bill McGrail, and Kenneth Gardner, Director of the Loyola Work Experience Program and Supplier Diversity Lead.

For employees and partners that participate in Quarterly Cause Connection, First Nation Group will make a donation in their honor to Loyola High School of Detroit. The entire First Nation Group family is looking forward to welcoming Loyola High School of Detroit during this quarter’s lunch and learn series and continuing to support their incredible mission for years to come!
